Election Address: Since the reform of the regulatory landscape and the removal of its regulatory function CIPA has to re-focus and re-define its relevance to the Members.

In particular, CIPA must decide whether to become an educator or a lobbying group. I firmly believe that it is possible for CIPA to fulfill both an education and lobbying role for the profession and also the wider business community, and would welcome the opportunity to participate in the redefinition of CIPA’s role.

In particular, having had experience in both private practice and in-house I appreciate the differing priorities of the two branches of the profession and would aim to bring a middle ground to crucial issues such as the lobbying of on the issue of grace periods and the potential reform of the qualifying examinations. The latter is a subject about which I am particularly passionate as I believe that “on the job” training is essential to maintain the high standard and reputation that the profession currently enjoys, and I would fight to maintain this in any future qualification regime.
