Membership of CIPA provides many benefits associated with being part of a community at the heart of intellectual property in the UK.

To apply for election to membership, or for upgrade, please send the completed form, with the relevant supporting documents,
  • A monthly publication, the CIPA Journal, sent to all members, which includes reports of recent cases, news about IP and in-depth articles about topical issues.
  • Representing the views of the profession in a large number of for a relating to IP, notably as the official voice of the profession before Government and other official bodies
  • Providing information, advice and assistance to the public through:
Distribution of information leaflets regarding IP.
Operating IP clinics, where members of the public can get basic advice on IP matters free of charge. 
Operating a pro bono scheme for litigants before the Patents County Court.

The Informals is an association of the unqualified members of the profession. There is no formal membership. The Informals provide a UK-wide support network for trainees, organising lectures and tutorials directed towards the examinations, trips to the UKIPO and social events. Student members of CIPA are encouraged to subscribe to the Informals' "Yellow Sheet" blog to be sure of being up-to-date with the latest information.
