Rose to Principal Development Engineer before transferring to GEC Patent Department in 1978. Joined Plessey Telecommunications and Office Systems Limited as Deputy Intellectual Property Manager in 1986 and, following centralisation of Plessey’s Patent Departments at Ilford moved to British Telecommunications plc Intellectual Property Department in 1988 until his retirement from BT in August 2006. Now in part-time private practice near St Neots, Cambridgeshire. Papers or articles: Some Editorials in CIPA Journal. Some articles in CIPA Journal. Services to Institute: Council Member since 1998. Chairman of Publications Committee (1998/99) and of merged Textbooks and Publications Committee ( 2000); Member of Press and PR Committee (March 1998-2007); Co-Chairman of ad hoc Website Committee; Member of Finance and House Committee ( 2000-2007). Former clinician at Institute ‘clinics’ for inventors and small businesses. Occasional representative on CIPA Exhibition stands and at parliamentary reception. Member of Congress Steering Committee. Liaison with Chair of EPI Education Committee. Assistance with Institute training manuals. Liaison with Sweet & Maxwell on Institute Handbooks. Attended joint Council meeting with epi in Nice (2003). Services to the profession outside the Institute: Occasional presentations to school sixth forms and societies; Presentations at CPD events.
