Benefits of Membership Membership of CIPA provides many benefits associated with being part of a community at the heart of intellectual property in the United Kingdom. The benefits are multiple and are there for the individual, for the profession itself and for the clients. In terms of the benefits for the individual, these include educational benefits, both in preparing for qualification and maintaining a current knowledge base after qualification. The Institute provides numerous opportunities to exchange experiences and advice, in both business and social settings. Members receive discounts on all seminars and webinars organised by the Institute as well as on all publications. Members can also access a range of special offers for goods and services covering lifestyle, insurance, business and finance via IP Benefits Plus (available via the members' area of the website). Membership includes a subscription to the CIPA Journal. The Journal is published every month and includes articles on current legal issues, monthly reports on IP cases in the UK and Europe (as well as regular updates for the US and elsewhere), and news of members and activities of the Institute. Along with the Journal, members are also sent the CIPA Supplement with details of IP events as well as the latest job vacancies. All members receive a discount on adverts in the Supplement. The Institute also plays a vitally important role in representing the views of the profession in a large number of fora relating to intellectual property, notably as the official voice of the profession before a number of official bodies. Finally, the established disciplinary procedure of the Institute and its rules of conduct mean that a client of a Fellow of the Institute is provided with assurances as to the standard of conduct expected of the individual that they are employing. Membership is open to qualified patent attorneys in the UK and abroad, to those training for qualification as a British patent attorney, and people practising in other professions associated with IP.
