The CPD seminar at this year’s Midland Fellows Meeting addresses a variety of topics with a distinctly international flavour. Firstly, Anthony Tridico, of Finnegans, takes a look at Inter partes reexamination, the US version of EPO oppositions, which has been growing in popularity, being used in conjunction with litigations and as a way to challenge newly issued patents. The second speaker is a German patent attorney talking about the filing of defences in the German infringement courts to see off injunctions from patent owners. Thirdly, Julyan Elbro of the UKIPO will bring us up to speed with the IPO’s current thinking on software patents.

The seminar will be followed by an Ordinary General Meeting of CIPA, giving members an opportunity to discuss with the President and members of Council matters of moment.

The formal meeting is followed by a Happy Hour at which all members of the Institute are welcome and the Midland Fellows Dinner at which members and guests are welcome.
