CIPA Congress 2010 - IP in the New Decade

30 September 2010 - 1 October 2010

Lancaster London Hotel, London W2 2TY

up to 10 hours CPD

Building on the successful formula of informed discussion on substantive topics, interspersed with generous opportunities for networking, Congress offers opportunities both to update your practice and to contribute to the development of future IP policy.

At the policy level, we have a discussion of the proposals for a European patent and a European patent court. On the practical front, we shall hear from industry on the management of worldwide IP portfolios and from a wide range of practitioners on the detail of IP business strategy and administration. A renowned litigator will lead us through the maze of disclosure and discovery, illustrated by ‘war stories’ and covering the implications of the electronic age. On the international front, we shall include detailed coverage of IP in two major emerging economies – China and India – and for trade mark practitioners we shall return to Adwords, take a look at domain name issues and review recent trade marks and designs case law. The programme will be punctuated by keynote speeches from John Alty, Chief Executive of the UK IPO, Carl Horton, Chief IP Counsel of General Electric and Professor William Kingston of Trinity College, Dublin.

The extensive social and networking element starts with an informal welcome pub evening on Wednesday 29 September and early Thursday morning, for those who are hardy, though some may argue foolhardy, we have an opportunity to swim in the Serpentine! The social jewel in the crown is a Gala dinner, to celebrate IPAG’s 10th Anniversary, with lavish entertainment. In addition, generous coffee breaks and special arrangements at lunch, will ensure networking is a very relaxed affair.
