As Registrar, Michael is responsible for maintaining the Register of Patent Agents, the keeping of which is delegated to the Institute under the Copyright, Designs & Patents Act and the associated Rules. This task includes ensuring that the Institute complies with the statutory requirements for publishing the Register and reporting to the Patent Office. He has responsibility for ensuring that the data relating both to the Register and the Institute's membership is kept up-to-date and is accurate. As Secretary, Michael services and provides advice to the Council and to the majority of Committees, particularly those dealing with professional and law issues. He deals with general and specific enquiries from members and from the public, and with the initial stages of the complaints procedures, seeking to achieve conciliation between the client and the member.
