As Secretary, Michael services and provides advice to the Council and to the majority of Committees, particularly those dealing with professional and law issues. He deals with general and specific enquiries from members and from the public, and with the initial stages of the complaints procedures, seeking to achieve conciliation between the client and the member. He also ensures that the Institute's database is up-to-date and oversees the maintenance of the Register of Patent Attorneys, this task being sub-contracted back to the Institute by the IP Regulation Board which, from 1st January 2010, has responsibility for regulating the patent attorney profession.
