Call for candidates: Nominations for Council
Published: 1 February 2010 By: Mick Ralph
Nominations are invited of Fellows wishing to stand for election to Council at the AGM on 19 May 2010Council must present at the OGM to be held in conjunction with the Scottish Meeting on 16 April the list of nominations received, so that the meeting can confirm the balloting list to be used for the elections. Council will shortly start the process of drawing up the balloting list by deciding at its meeting on 3 February the names of those members of Council who will retire in accordance with the By-laws. Council has the obligation under the By-laws to use its reasonable endeavours to secure that the list presented to the OGM has at least sufficient names to bring the Council up to 26 members, and it will at its February meeting consider the nominations already received, so that it can take any necessary action to seek to secure that the list has sufficient names. A provisional list, containing the nominations received up to the Council meeting on 3 March, will be published in the Supplement to the March issue of CIPA. However, nominations received by noon on 15 April can be included on the list and that meeting may add additional names. It will be helpful to Council in seeking to ensure the completeness of the list if nominations are received as early as possible, particularly if they are received by me by noon on 3 March. Any Fellow may be nominated for election as an Ordinary Member of Council, or as Vice-President, but any Fellow nominated for election as President must previously have served on Council. Nominations must be in writing and must include the consent of the Fellow being nominated. Nominations for election as an Ordinary Council Member may be by the Fellow concerned or by one or more other Fellows. Nominations for President or Vice-President must be by four other Fellows. Council strongly encourages Fellows to consider standing for Council or to nominate other Fellows, with the Fellows’ consent. Any member of Council will be pleased to discuss what is involved in serving on Council.
