“Patentability tips and tricks at the USPTO and EPO” has something for every prosecution practitioner. Mike Jennings, partner and European Patent Attorney at highly rated AA Thornton IP LLP in London, and member of CIPA’s Computer Technology Committee, will tackle the challenging and ever-changing landscape of computer-implemented inventions giving you the best practices and latest current thinking for patenting this technology at the European Patent Office.

Another international patentability expert, AIPLA’s Ryan Pool, partner at Millen, White, Zelano & Branigan, of Arlington, Virginia, will focus on legal doctrines inside of obviousness in the US which are widely used in the chemical, biological, and mechanical arts. He will provide data on the performance of rejections which use these doctrines and even show you how you can use them to your advantage.

Ryan Pool is a Partner at MWZB who specializes in chemical and life sciences patent prosecution. He is experienced in patent drafting, patent prosecution, and portfolio management. His practice has involved considerable work in the international patent sphere and he is the current Co-Chair of the AIPLA IP Practice in Europe committee.

Mr. Pool is interested in using data to find advantages for is clients to increase both prosecution effectiveness and efficiency. He has authored a number of papers to that end which have published in both US and international patent law industry publications. He will be discussing one such work today.

Mike Jennings is a partner and a UK & European patent attorney at London-based AA Thornton IP LLP, where he heads a team of patent attorneys specialising in computer-implemented inventions, communications, electronics and electrical engineering. His background is in physics and computing. He worked in-house at IBM for several years before joining AA Thornton, and has vast experience of patent prosecution & portfolio management, EPO oppositions and patent licensing.
