European Patent Attorney, Siena, Italy
We invite you to join one of the world’s largest vaccines companies, delivering vaccines that help protect people at all stages of life. GSK’s portfolio has been helping to prevent serious disease for well over 100 years. Today, GSK tackles some of the world’s most devastating diseases, including pneumococcal disease, meningitis, hepatitis, rotavirus, whooping cough and influenza.
As part of an international team of experienced patent attorneys, you will support GSK Vaccines innovation community, which is the beating heart of GSK’s business. Located in the beautiful city of Siena, Italy, you will have daily contact with your internal clients, who will look to you for strategic IP advice on a range of challenging projects, encapsulating the entire spectrum of patent matters.
Be part of a science-led global healthcare company with a special purpose: to help people do more, feel better, live longer.
The Vaccines IP Department is a diverse team with groups located in Italy, Belgium, UK and the USA, supporting the global vaccine R&D centers in Rockville (USA), Siena (Italy) and Wavre (Belgium). The exposure to varied and interesting work and visibility to senior stakeholders within the business that you can attain working as a member of the GSK Vaccines IP team will be far greater than in many other in-house roles, and the diet of work assigned to you will be both stretching and highly rewarding.
Besides the substantive caseload, the team handles a large amount of contentious matters, so you will also have the opportunity to work on EPO opposition and appeal cases. Distinctive to GSK is the chance to handle these cases directly – the IP team aims to keep this activity in-house where possible. Additionally, GSK is active in many third-party collaborations, so you will find yourself regularly involved in multi-disciplinary negotiation teams, as the IP expert. GSK does not keep you in the shadows, so expect to take a leading role when needed.
As the team is seeking to recruit a qualified European Patent Attorney, and the role can be tailored according to you to your years of post-qualified experience. Your scientific profile, which should ideally be grounded in the biological sciences but may include some experience working in chemical fields, will enable you to quickly connect with the scientists and inventors and make an immediate impression on the team.
In summary, GSK can provide exciting career stretch within your first year in the IP team and career growth possibilities thereafter. Success in this international organisation requires your willingness to learn, develop, be taken out of your comfort zone, and to have a curious attitude; to never accept the status quo but to challenge, question and deliver.
