British American Tobacco UK has exciting opportunities for Mid-Senior and Senior Level Patent Counsel in London or Southampton

Interested in being involved across the full ecosystem of patent counselling with R&D and commercial stakeholders from harvesting innovation, identifying, and solving patent risks, prosecuting patents and managing all patent advice to our Centres of Excellence?

Your key responsibilities will include:

Implementing filing and prosecution strategies to maximise our competitive advantage from our key innovations

Conducting robust search, identification and analysis of third-party patent rights to identify potential risks

Communicating risks and recommendations for mitigation to enable stakeholders to make commercial decisions

Delivering high quality, solution-orientated advice, and management on all aspects of work

Managing costs appropriately including, but not limited to, reducing reliance on outside vendors as appropriate

What are we looking for? As a minimum you must be part or fully qualified as a European and/or UK patent attorney

Experience of executing innovative, pragmatic, cost effective filing and prosecution strategies which will maximise our competitive advantage

Experience of searching for, identifying, and communicating infringement risks to senior stakeholders in conjunction with recommendations for commercially focused mitigation strategies

Ability to assimilate and undertake high level strategic analysis of complex legal and business issues in line with overall business strategy

Ability to advise on and assess IP clauses in commercial agreements, including licences, settlement agreements and assignments

Ability to cultivate a network of collaborative relationships at all levels within BAT which are based on mutual trust to ensure the best outcome for BAT as a whole
