Simon is chair of the CIPA computer technology committee and a director of Altair IP.  He has many years of experience working across the full spectrum of computing and has also performed research in electrical engineering and high energy astrophysics.  He started his career as a patent attorney with IBM and was a partner for many years at D Young & Co LLP.

M Jorge Cardoso is Reader in Artificial Medical Intelligence at King’s College London, where he leads a research portfolio on big data analytics, quantitative radiology and value-based healthcare. Jorge is also the CTO of the new London Medical Imaging and AI Centre for Value-based Healthcare. He has more than 12 years expertise in advanced image analysis, big data, and artificial intelligence, and co-leads the development of project MONAI, a deep-learning platform for artificial intelligence in medical imaging. He is also a founder of BrainMiner and Elaitra, two med-tech startups aiming improve neurological care and breast cancer diagnosis, respectively.

Nicki has worked at the UK IPO for over 30 years as a patent examiner and, in more recent years, as a policy advisor in the area of patents.  She looks at policy issues raised by specific technologies for the UK domestic patent framework. Recently Nicki has been involved in the UK IPO’s program of work on Artificial Intelligence & IP.

Kevin Fournier is a European patent attorney and a US patent attorney, as well as a US qualified lawyer.  He was formally a USPTO Examiner, an outside IP counsel in the US, and an IBM IP lawyer/patent attorney for many years, where he developed considerable expertise in IP business transactions such as patent licensing, collaboration agreements and technology services/consulting agreements.  He is currently practising IP law in his own solo law firm, helping technology clients with a wide range of IP legal matters.

Adrian Howes is Head of IP and Standards in Nokia’s IP Policy team. Prior to joining Nokia, Adrian worked as a senior litigation counsel at Mylan (now called Viatris), a consultant for Sony Computer Entertainment and an associate in the intellectual property department of the law firm Bird & Bird. He is an English qualified lawyer, and studied chemistry and law at the Universities of Durham and Cambridge, respectively.

Adrian’s work at Nokia presently encompasses IP policy issues around standards, patents and software/open source. This includes active involvement in cross-industry discussions on IPR and its place in the next generation of industry standards at SDOs such as DVB, ETSI and the ITU. Prior to being on Nokia’s IP Policy team, Adrian was part of Nokia’s litigation and legal teams.

Geoff Hussey heads AA Thornton’s legal & litigation department. His experience includes acting for a broad range of clients in many sectors including life sciences, electronics, telecoms, chemicals, aviation, food & drink and financial services and his IP litigation practice relates to all forms of intellectual property and a wide range of industries.

Geoff has extensive experience in patent litigation before the UK Patents Courts and in patent oppositions particularly in relation to electronics, telecoms, pharmaceuticals, and medical devices. His contentious practice also covers trade mark and passing off litigation, design right and copyright litigation and disputes concerning contractual arrangements involving IP. He also advises on non-contentious intellectual property matters including setting up and implementing IP licensing and ownership structures, IP due diligence, IP audits and brand management.

Dr Rachel Free is a partner in the patent team at International Law Firm CMS where she helps clients to protect their technology through patents. She has an MSc in Artificial Intelligence and a DPhil in Vision Science. She qualified as a European and UK patent attorney in the last century and has worked on AI patent drafting and prosecution through her career. Rachel is a member of the All Party Parliamentary Group on AI (APPG AI) which advises parliamentarians regarding AI. Rachel Free is a gold ranked individual – IAM Patent 1000, United Kingdom: England and Wales 2025, and is individually ranked as a next generation partner in Legal 500 2025. Rachel is recognized in the IAM global leaders 2026.
