The EPO’s new technology insight report analyses five decades of trends regarding more than 30 technologies across four areas: photovoltaic materials, photovoltaic devices, the management of these devices, and application areas, based on publicly available patent information from the EPO’s worldwide patent databases. In this presentation, we will provide an overview of the underlying methodology and present interesting results. We will also give a review of related activities and offering of the EPO’s Observatory on Patents and Technology.

Christian Soltmann, EPOChristian Soltmann, EPO
Christian Soltmann is a patent analyst in the EPO’s Chief Economist Unit. He holds a PhD in materials science and a MAS in intellectual property. He joined the EPO in 2013 and is today involved in patent analytics activities at the EPO, such as the creation of EPO technology insight reports. In addition, he contributes to the creation and maintenance of EPO technology platforms and to training activities of the EPO as a speaker and lecturer.
Victor Veefkind, EPOVictor Veefkind, EPO
Victor Veefkind is Stream Leader Technology Intelligence for EPO’s Observatory for Patents and Technology. He has more than 25 years of experience as examiner and opposition chair in various chemical and engineering areas and has a passion for technology. In his new role as stream leader for the observatory, he is responsible for the delivery of technology insight reports, technology platforms and interaction with various stakeholders on technology issues.
