Cath has spent 20 years in private practice protecting client’s technology across life sciences prior to joining HLK and is known to provide personable, pragmatic, strategic and commercially focused IP advice in areas such as large scale pharmaceuticals, gene editing, food ingredients, plant biotechnology, sequencing, and drug delivery.

A CRISPR specialist, Cath has worked on some of the earliest CRISPR patents exploiting its role in bacterial immunity and has been at the forefront on this technology ever since. As such, Cath has extensive experience in opposition matters, due diligence, and drafting across the wide array of technologies to which CRISPR has been applied. Cath has provided education to fellow patent attorneys, has written numerous articles and has provided commentary on CRISPR IP to leading scientific and IP journals such as Nature, Science, The Scientist, IAM and LSIPR.

Prior to joining the IP profession Cath’s background was in the scale up of active pharmaceutical ingredients and in the downstream processing of food ingredients.

Rachel is a Patent/IP Litigation Partner and advises on contentious intellectual property matters for clients across a broad range of sectors including, life sciences, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, chemicals, food and beverage, aviation, media and telecommunications industries. Rachel has extensive experience of litigating before the UK Patents Court, High Court and Court of Appeal. Rachel regularly advises on pan-European IP litigation strategy, including UPC litigation. Rachel is the Head of the Law Group at HGF and co-leads HGF’s UPC offering.

Adam is a Partner at HGF who specialises in the field of medical technology and medical devices.

Having previously managed an extensive patent portfolio at a multinational healthcare company, Adam is adept at developing harmonized, robust global IP strategies that complement the commercial goals of his clients and add value to their business.

European patent oppositions are a core aspect of Adam’s work. He has a wealth of knowledge in this area having represented clients at over 75 hearings before the European Patent Office both attacking and defending business-critical patents. Adam enjoys the challenging, dynamic and adversarial nature of the opposition process and has an established track record in achieving favourable outcomes for his clients.
