We’re pleased to introduce a new President and Vice President initiative, giving members in the Yorkshire region the opportunity to meet their elected officials ahead of the Yorkshire regional meeting.
Join the President, Vice President, and CIPA senior staff for an update on current priorities and recent achievements, followed by an open forum where delegates are invited to share views, raise questions, and help shape future activity.
The open discussion will focus on key topics including:
- Engagement with the IPO
- Liaison with the EPO
- Supporting UK SMEs
- Political influencing and advocacy
- Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI), including improving access to the profession
- Delegates are also encouraged to raise additional topics of interest.
Attendance at the Presidential Breakfast Meeting is free of charge and there is no requirement to attend the Yorkshire regional meeting. Advance booking is required and can be made online.
Tea, coffee, and breakfast will be provided for all delegates.

Simon Wright, CIPA President, Schlich LtdSimon Wright, CIPA President, Schlich Ltd
Simon has a Chemistry (with Biochemistry) degree from Bristol University and qualified as a UK patent attorney in 1990. He became a European Patent Attorney in 1992 while with Kilburn & Strode and joined J A Kemp in 1994. He became a partner in J A Kemp’s biotechnology group in 2005 and moved to Schlich on the south coast in January 2022.
Simon handles patent and trade mark work in a wide variety of life science, chemical and pharma fields, including stem cells, human genes and genomics, drug delivery systems, contrast agents, GM crops, algae technology and CRISPR technology. He also handles mechanical work ranging from drones to electric vehicle charging. He works for a broad variety of clients ranging from individuals, SMEs and private clients up to UK universities and biotechnology start-ups. He also acts for EU and US genomics and academic institutions.
Simon chaired CIPA’s Life Sciences Committee for 20 years and relinquished that role earlier this year. He still Chairs the epi Biotech committee. He is a member of CIPA’s Council, Patents Committee and International Liaison Committee. He is a member of epi Council and the By-Laws committee and has been selected to be a member of SACEPO.
He is currently the President of CIPA for 2026.
He enjoys wine, gigs, playing the sax, running and cycling.

Vicki Salmon, CIPA Vice President, Impact IPVicki Salmon, CIPA Vice President, Impact IP
Vicki Salmon is a solicitor and UK and European patent attorney, patent attorney litigator and UPC representative. She began her career with Mewburn Ellis, before moving through city law firms and back to patent attorney practices. She is now a co-founder of Impact Intellectual Property LLP, which started in September 2021.
Her work includes advising clients on all forms of IP protection, from strategy and filing, through clearance, disputes and exploitation.
Vicki is Vice President and member of Council. She has chaired the Internal Governance Committee, Education Committee, Litigation Committee and Congress Steering Committee. She is also a member of the Patents Committee, the Internal Governance Committee, the Small Practice Committee, and the Public Affairs Committee. She is a contributor to the CIPA Guide to the Patents Act. As chair of litigation committee, Vicki worked on the development of the UPC with the other UK and EU professions, which involved many meetings with the IPO and appearances in front of Parliamentary select committees.
When not working, she might be found upside down on her yoga mat, on the golf course or, in the summer, listening to outdoor opera.
