In collaboration with CIPA, Damar Training, apprenticeship experts in the legal sector, have developed an intellectual property for their paralegal apprenticeship. The programme is designed for new or existing members of staff within IP practices, dedicated IP departments, and in-house teams. Apprentices will develop expert knowledge across the full spectrum of IP law, from UK and European patent prosecution to Madrid Protocol registrations and litigation procedures.
The industry-leading programme combines specialist IP workshops, interactive digital learning, and personalised 1-2-1 coaching to embed real-world skills. With levy and government funding available, the apprenticeship is a cost-effective way to recruit new talent and upskill existing members of your team.

Helen Dalton, Skills EnglandHelen Dalton, Skills EnglandHelen Dalton has more than 30 years’ experience working across government departments and in varied roles. She has worked in skills for 7 years, first for the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education and currently Skills England within the Department of Work and Pensions .
Helen has previously worked with employers, providers, assessment organisations, professional bodies, regulators, and government departments across Digital, Engineering and Manufacturing sectors helping them to secure valuable apprenticeship products that meet labour market needs. Helen now does the same with the legal, finance and accounting sectors supporting 35 occupational groups with almost 1,000 members.
The legal apprenticeship space currently offers 12 apprenticeships covering Level 3 to Level 7 occupations offering widely sought after programmes that are highly competitive and much loved by employers and apprentices alike.
Jonathan Bourne, CEO of Damar TrainingJonathan Bourne, CEO of Damar TrainingAfter spending the early part of his career as a solicitor, Jonathan has been at Damar Training since 2007 as managing director and more recently CEO, overseeing Damar’s growth to becoming a leading national provider of apprenticeships in business and professional services. Jonathan brought together the consortium that created the first legal apprenticeship in 2013 and has driven Damar’s legal offer which includes legal administration, paralegal, solicitor and chartered legal executive apprenticeships.Â
Darren Addicott, Curriculum Specialist at Damar TrainingDarren Addicott, Curriculum Specialist at Damar TrainingDarren worked as a chartered legal executive for 19 years across a variety of large law firms and in-house legal teams, before joining Damar in 2016 as a trainer and coach. Now, as Damar’s legal curriculum specialist, he plays a pivotal role in the design and planning of Damar’s legal apprenticeship programmes, working closely with employers and sector bodies to create apprenticeships that respond to industry needs and create lasting impact for apprentices and employers.
Annemarie Parsons, MurgitroydAnnemarie Parsons, MurgitroydAnnemarie is a highly skilled paralegal with over 25 years of experience, her responsibilities including the preparation and delivery of training and training materials for paralegals, the standardisation of work and the career development and continuing professional development for paralegals. Annemarie also manages a large portfolio of patents and designs, liaising closely with attorneys, outside counsel and clients.
Annemarie is currently the Chair of CIPA’s IP Paralegal Committee, as well as a Lead Course Tutor and Examiner for the official paralegal qualification of the UK registered patent profession. Annemarie gained the European Patent Administration Certification in 2022 and is also currently involved in the preparation of course materials for the CIPA advanced paralegal qualification.
