Re-accreditation of Qualifying Examinations

The Foundation Certificate and Final Diploma Examinations, as delivered by the Patent Examination Board (PEB) of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys (CIPA), are currently undergoing a process of re-accreditation by the Intellectual Property Regulation Board (IPReg).

In the interest of candidates and the profession, the decision has been taken by the PEB, in consultation with CIPA, to open registration for the 2025 Qualifying Examinations as planned on Monday 23 June 2025.

The IPReg Board’s final re-accreditation decision for the examinations will not have been made by this date. Decisions are due to be made at the IPReg Board meeting on 10 July. In the interests of all candidates, CIPA and the Governance Board of the PEB (PEB GB) expect to be notified of IPReg’s decision as soon as possible.

CIPA and the PEB GB wish to assure all candidates and employers that, throughout the re-accreditation process, the PEB has responded to all of IPReg’s requests and re-accreditation requirements in a timely manner and has been focussed on securing IPReg re-accreditation of the examinations for the October 2025 sitting. Work is continuing, in close liaison with IPReg, to ensure that this happens.

Further developments will be communicated directly to registered candidates and via updates on this website.
