Burmatex® Ltd is a UK-based designer and manufacturer of contract carpet tiles and planks, supplying both the UK and international markets, and committed to reducing environmental impact through sustainable product innovation. As part of its wider sustainability strategy, Burmatex® has embedded environmental thinking into every stage of its operations – from materials and manufacturing to distribution and end-of-life.
In 2022, Burmatex® launched eco2matters®, a sustainability framework that now underpins its full product development process and the creation of carbon-neutral and low-carbon flooring collections. In 2024, both snowfall® and standing stones® were launched, and balance collection® refreshed within the carbon-neutral range. In addition, alaska®, academy® and tivoli® were all refreshed and relaunched in the low-carbon range. These ranges are produced with a focus on reducing emissions and enhancing materials.
Burmatex® works closely with materials partners to improve the environmental profile of its products. It collaborates with Universal Fibers® to incorporate Thrive® matter, a carbon-negative recycled yarn and uses BioBase® recycled backing, developed with the University of Huddersfield, which contains a minimum of 77% recycled content. In addition, it also uses EqoBalance® 100% recycled bio-genic yarn, which is made using bio-genic organic waste from renewable sources.
Burmatex®’s commitment extends beyond product innovation. The Company has achieved ISO14001 and ISO9001 accreditation, operates a zero-landfill policy, and offers a take-back recovery service, supporting the reuse or recycling of end-of-life materials. Burmatex® also provides third-party Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), giving customers a clear picture of each product’s carbon footprint.
Looking ahead, Burmatex® is investing in R&D to explore the circularity of finished goods, aiming to establish a new industrial recycling process during 2025. This project reflects the Company’s intention to move from “low waste” to true circularity – designing flooring that can be disassembled, recovered, and reused.
