Plastic waste is one of the biggest environmental problems we face today, but what if we could turn the most difficult-to-recycle plastics into something valuable? That’s exactly what DeepTech Recycling is doing.
Based in the UK, DeepTech Recycling has developed a cutting-edge technology that takes plastic waste that would usually end up in landfill or incineration, such as crisp packets, food trays, plastic film and even polystyrene – and transforms it into a material called Plaxx. Plaxx is a high-quality hydrocarbon product that can be used to make new, virgin-grade plastic. It acts as a replacement for crude oil in the plastics manufacturing process, closing the loop on plastic use.
What makes DeepTech’s system different is how versatile and efficient it is. Unlike other recycling methods, it doesn’t need all the plastic to be sorted beforehand and can handle contaminated or mixed plastics. Their process also runs continuously, which means it’s faster and more reliable than traditional batch-based systems.
Importantly, their output Plaxx isn’t burned as fuel. Instead, it’s reused within the plastics industry, supporting a true circular economy. This not only reduces waste but also cuts the need for fossil fuels, making it a win for both industry and the environment.
The technology is designed to be modular and mid-sized, so it can be installed close to where the plastic waste is collected. This reduces transport costs and emissions, making recycling more accessible and efficient.
