IPReg re-accredits the UK Qualifying Examinations

The Intellectual Property Regulation Board (IPReg) has confirmed that the 2025 Foundation Certificate and Final Diploma Examinations, as delivered by the Patent Examination Board (PEB) of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys (CIPA), have been accredited and can be delivered as planned.

On 19 June 2025, the PEB, CIPA and IPReg issued a joint statement explaining that the decision had been taken to open registration for the 2025 Qualifying Examinations as planned on 23 June 2025. The statement was published on the PEB website here.

This decision was made while the IPReg Board’s final re-accreditation decision for the PEB examinations was still awaited. It was the view of CIPA and the PEB Governance Board that registration for the 2025 examinations should open in the interests of candidates and the profession.

IPReg has now notified the PEB that, at its meeting on 10 July, the IPReg Board confirmed accreditation of the Final Diploma and Foundation Certificate examinations for delivery in October 2025.

The PEB and CIPA look forward to working with IPReg to ensure accreditation of the FD and FC examinations beyond 2025.

Further developments will be communicated directly to registered candidates and via updates on this website.
