Emotional Perception’s Application: : An update on arguments from the hearing at the Court of Appeal and the impact on exclusions to patentability for AI and CII technologies
The webinar introduces the arguments for alleged exclusion to patentability of the invention for reasons that it amounted to a computer program, as argued by the UKIPO at the High Court and subsequently at the Court of Appeal hearing scheduled for May 2024. It will further cover the impact of the decision of Sir Anthony Mann, presenting comments on Emotional Perception’s successful arguments at first instance. Potentially more significantly, arguments presented to the Court of Appeal, including those of the UKIPO suggesting that neural networks are also mathematical methods “as such” and thus excluded under section 1(2)(a), will be explored.
Bruce Dearling represents Emotional Perception AI, is a shareholder at Hepworth Browne and is responsible for CIIs, AI, communications, and business technologies. He has over 30-years of private practice and industrial practice experience both in the UK and internationally, securing leading decisions in litigation in Germany and other European countries.
