Gail is a UK and European patent attorney specialising in Chemical Engineering. She is an associate in the Engineering group and has worked in intellectual property since 2009.
Before joining the IP profession, Gail spent five years working in the Research & Development division of one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies. Her work in R&D included crystallisation using supercritical fluid processing as well as optimisation of particle size reduction techniques.
She now deals with subject-matter spanning a broad range of technologies within and beyond the chemical engineering field; including industrial processes, drilling equipment, catalysts, polymers, food stuffs, renewable energy production and mechanical inventions.
She has experience of drafting and prosecuting patent applications in the UK and Europe, including oppositions, appeals and restoration requests. She is also in the Designs Team and has assisted clients to obtain registered designs in Europe and the UK.
James specialises in patent matters relating to chemistry, particularly pharmaceuticals, electrochemistry, polymers and other materials. His pharmaceutical experience focusses on small molecule therapies for infectious diseases, cardiology and oncology, as well as cannabis/cannabinoid inventions. James has worked with a broad range of clients, including global organisations, SMEs, start-ups and academic institutions. He has experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications in Europe and the UK, as well as co-ordinating prosecution of clients’ patent portfolios worldwide.
James is a regular instructor on patent law and drafting courses in developing countries around the world for the World Intellectual Property Organisation. He also has experience working in-house for a global petrochemicals corporation as part of their intellectual property strategy team.
James graduated with an MChem in Chemistry with Patent law from the University of Manchester. He also holds a Masters in Intellectual Property Law (LLM) from the University of Manchester.
Scott is a European and UK patent attorney, based in our London office. He joined our Tech practice group in 2018, having spent a number of years training at another top-tier patent firm in London.
Working both for large multinational tech firms and for UK-based SMEs, Scott has a depth of experience in managing large patent portfolios, and enjoys working closely with his clients to ensure that he maintains focus on their commercial needs throughout the prosecution process. As well as being an expert in patent drafting and prosecution, Scott regularly advises on patent infringement, validity, and due diligence matters.
With a Master’s degree in physics, focussing in his final year on condensed matter physics and solid state devices, Scott’s academic background equips him well for his work in the fields of semiconductors, telecommunications, electronics, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering. Scott has extensive experience in prosecuting patent applications relating to solid state devices, in particular TFT and OLED display devices. Scott also has a keen interest in medical devices.
