Event Overview

CIPA will be holding a webinar explaining the basics of IP marketing and PR for small firms and sole practitioners. Neil Lampert, Deputy Chief Executive at CIPA, will chair the webinar, and his panel members will be marketing and public relations experts Greg Birmingham and James West.

Neil, who has previously worked in various media and PR roles in the public and private sector, will be inviting Greg, who is Head of Marketing at Mathys and Squire, and James, who is Potter Clarkson’s PR director, to offer their expertise and advice on the full PR and marketing mix, including digital marketing, media engagement, optimising websites, advertorials, reputation management and marketing strategy.

The webinar will explain the difference between marketing and business development and will provide practical advice and top tips on things like developing key messages and how to structure a press release. The overarching aim of the webinar will be to show small firms how they can generate value for money in the context of a limited budget.

Greg is head of marketing at top-tier intellectual property firm, Mathys & Squire and has over 20 years’ experience in front line sales, B2B marketing and business development. Greg has worked across a range of industries including, real estate, accountancy and most recently, intellectual property.

Greg has a broad skill-set which covers the full marketing mix including, PR, digital marketing, branding, marketing strategy, sales and working directly with fee earners on business development mentoring and account management.

James West, Potter Clarkson

James West, Potter Clarkson

James is a seasoned PR consultant who co-directs the ongoing communications campaign at full service intellectual property law firm, Potter Clarkson.

A professional services specialist with over 20 years’ agency experience, he has consulted for a range of advisory businesses to include PwC, Eversheds law firm, Begbies Traynor, Fortis Bank and NFU Mutual.

James is highly adept in all aspects of PR consultancy from media relations and training to crisis communications and social media management. He works closely with fee earners across the international Potter Clarkson team to raise the firm’s profile and underline its credentials across the full range of IP disciplines.
