Suzanne is a dual qualified UK and European Patent Attorney and has recently joined the Scintilla team as Director, IP Strategy. Prior to her career in Intellectual Property, she spent a number of years in engineering. Suzanne worked in-house in a tech and robotics start-up, GroundWOW, leading their IP strategy, as well as IP policy development. Previously, she was responsible for Operations, Legal, and IP at SeeChange Technologies, a wholly owned subsidiary and subsequent spin out of ARM Ltd. Prior to her work with SeeChange Technologies, Suzanne managed ARM’s global patent and trademark prosecution teams supporting a diverse portfolio of IP strategy, policy and development matters for ARM.
In addition to her impressive professional credentials, she holds several NED and Board positions, most recently as the President of the UK IP Federation. This saw her advise the UK government in the field of innovation and IP.
Suzanne has championed women in STEM, inclusion and diversity throughout her career, being named as an IAM ‘World Leading IP Strategist’ for 2017, and as a Managing IP ‘Corporate IP Star’ in 2018 & 2019. She was a national award winner for her Corporate Diversity and Inclusion Leadership work in 2018.
Sarah Frood works in the Innovation Tax team at Deloitte, based in Manchester. Sarah has been specialised in the UK Patent Box regime since 2013, supporting a wide variety of claimants to access the regime both in the local region and nationally.
Andrew Carridge is a Partner at Reddie & Grose and a UK and European Patent Attorney based in the firm’s Cambridge office. Andrew has a Masters degree in Biochemistry from Oxford University, and prior to joining Reddie & Grose, gained commercial research and development experience at Unilever where he assisted in the development of innovative formulations for a number of well-known brands. Andrew has over 15 years of experience in the profession, assisting clients with drafting, filing and prosecuting patent applications in the UK, Europe and around the world; and at opposition and appeal proceedings at the European Patent Office. He also advises on freedom to operate, patentability, due diligence, inventorship and assignment matters. He assists clients in obtaining supplementary protection certificates (SPCs) and advises on strategies for maximising exclusivity for approved drugs, in Europe.
Andrew acts for a wide range of clients including start-ups, multinational companies and academic institutions within the life sciences and chemical sectors. He has experience in a number of technical areas including antimicrobial formulations, tissue regeneration, pharmaceuticals and biologics (including antibodies), disease diagnosis and nucleic acid sequencing. Andrew also assists clients in other technical areas such as medical devices, industrial processing of biomass and materials.
Andrea is a Chartered Patent Attorney and a former CIPA President. In the past she has served on the Institute’s governing Council and several of its committees.
Before her retirement she was a partner in a small regional IP practice, Greaves Brewster LLP, of which she had been a co-founder.
Andrea established IP Inclusive in 2015 to promote equality, diversity, inclusion (EDI) and wellbeing throughout the UK’s IP professions. Alongside many enthusiastic volunteers, she has developed the initiative into a well-connected and influential player in the IP sector. She became its first Lead Executive Officer in 2019.
Yelena is an experienced patent attorney with technical expertise across different fields of engineering, most particularly in information technology and software, telecommunications, and AI. Being qualified in the US and in Europe, Yelena practices in both jurisdictions, focusing on patent procurement and portfolio development for a diverse range of global clients. Using her knowledge of the different legal approaches employed on both sides of the Atlantic, Yelena provides a pragmatic advice and develops creative solutions enabling businesses to meet their commercial objectives.
Yelena currently serves on the Board of Directors of the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) and is the Board liaison to the AIPLA international committees. She also is an active member of the Women in IP Group of the IP Inclusive Task Force.
