Plausibility is now established as an important factor in the assessment of sufficiency and inventive step in the life sciences in particular. In this webinar, Sian Gill and Anwar Gilani will discuss decisions relating to plausibility from both the EPO Boards of Appeal and from the UK courts and the implications of these decisions with respect to drafting and prosecution of UK and European patent applications.

Anwar is a UK and European patent attorney in Venner Shipley’s chemical and life sciences team, based in the firm’s Cambridge office. He works on a wide range of chemical subject matter including pharmaceuticals, polymers and organic semiconductors.
Prior to joining Venner Shipley, Anwar worked as an examiner at the UK Patent Office in the areas of novel organic compounds and medical devices and as an in-house IP manager.
His experience includes drafting and prosecuting patent applications before the UK and European patent offices, managing and budgeting worldwide patent portfolios covering Europe, USA and the Far East, IP due diligence activities and freedom to operate analysis.
Siân is a UK and European patent attorney and heads up Venner Shipley’s chemical and life sciences team. She specialises in the drafting, filing and prosecution of patent applications in a broad spectrum of technical fields that includes biotechnology, pharmaceuticals and consumer goods.
Siân also has considerable experience of managing global patent portfolios and regularly provides infringement and validity advice.
