This talk is intended for paralegals and other professionals dealing with the practicalities of obtaining and maintaining Supplementary Protection Certificates (SPCs) for medicines and plant protection products. It will cover the rationale behind SPCs, give an overview of the legislation that governs them, and how this is implemented in the UK. The implications of Brexit will be covered, along with paediatric extensions. A specific focus will be on the documentation required for obtaining an SPC in the UK and other countries in Europe, and critical deadlines that must be met. No knowledge of the subject is assumed; there will be discussion of case law only insofar as it is relevant to actually applying for an SPC.
