An overview of IPO initiatives and ongoing work related to the IP framework assisting IP in green technologies as well as IP trends relating to green technologies. This landscape analysis highlights the patent landscape in relation to green technologies. It investigates patenting trends relating to technologies covered in the Government’s ten-point plan for a green industrial revolution. In addition, it looks at patenting relating to green technologies as a whole. There is also an overview of trade marks relating to green technologies, and how the trade mark landscape is evolving over time.
Andrew is a team leader in the Strategic Policy and Legislative Co-ordination team at the UK Intellectual Property Office (IPO). Within this role, Andrew is working to ensure the UK IP framework supports innovation in green technologies and the UK government’s Net Zero policies. The IPO operate a Green Channel initiative, a service that allows applicants to request patent acceleration if the invention has an environmental benefit. The IPO are actively looking at further opportunities to promote the development and adoption of green technologies through the IP framework
Aled is a senior insights analyst working as part of the Economics, Research and Evidence team at the IPO. Within this role, Aled has produced a number of IP landscapes across a range of various technologies, and looking at landscapes across a range of jurisdictions. These landscapes help provide an evidence base for wider government IP policies. In relation to green technologies, a series of patent landscape reports were published in 2021, which provided an overview of trends relating to the technologies covered within the UK government’s ten point plan for a green industrial revolution.
