Train the Trainer London 2022

Are you about to begin a role in training trainee patent attorneys? Hear from experienced trainers on how they support trainees throughout their learning.  The new Patent Training Manual will be introduced with ideas on how it can be integrated into a trainees learning plan. Train the trainer will be delivered as a workshop and will therefore only have availability for 20 delegates. As always we will accept bookings for this event on a first come first serve basis.

Emily Dodgson, Abel & Imray

Emily Dodgson is a UK and European patent attorney and a partner at Abel + Imray and has experience of both Examining Division and Opposition Division ViCo in recent months. As well as opposition and appeal work at the EPO, her practice involves drafting and prosecuting patent applications particularly before the EPO, IPO and worldwide. She acts for a range of clients including large multinational companies, established SME’s and ambitious start-ups. Her technical background is in mechanical engineering with a PhD and MEng from the University of Bath.

Jonathan Hewett, Venner Shipley

Jonathan is a partner in the electronics and engineering group at Venner Shipley LLP. Venner Shipley is one of the largest private practice firms in the UK, and has performed substantial recruitment at graduate level in recent years. Jonathan oversees internal training procedures at Venner Shipley LLP in relation to exam-based tuition and day-today professional development. Jonathan is also a member of the CIPA Education Committee.

Debbie is a Senior Patent Attorney at Granta IP Services Ltd. She is a member of Council and Chair of the Education Committee. She is a Co-Editor of the Patents Training Manual and currently working on the development and delivery of the Advanced Patent Paralegal Course.

Chris Mercer, CIPA Council

Chris Mercer, CIPA Council

Chris Mercer joined the patent profession in 1975 and passed the UK Finals exams in 1979. For the majority of his career, Chris was either a partner or a consultant for Carpmaels & Ransford, with a large practice in oppositions and appeals at the EPO and litigation before the UK courts. Chris is a member of Council for CIPA and is also on a number of CIPA committees, including the Education, Patents and Litigation Committees. He is also on epi’s Council and on various epi Committees and was a founding member of EPLIT. Chris is a former president of both CIPA and epi. He appeared as an advocate in a Moot Court event in 1977.
