Jim Robertson

Jim head up the life sciences team at Lawrie IP.

With over 25 years’ experience, Jim’s technical fields include diagnostics and therapeutics, molecular and cellular biology, antigens and antibody-based technologies, microbiology, medical devices, digital healthtech, synthetic biology, personalised medicine, regenerative medicine, agritech, plants and biopesticides.

Motivated by helping his clients’ businesses thrive, Jim protects their products and technologies by drafting, filing and prosecuting patent applications, managing patent portfolios, and handling contentious proceedings such as oppositions and revocations. He also undertakes due diligence on commercial transactions and performs freedom to operate work.

His expertise allows his clients to get on with building their own successful businesses while he looks after their IP.

Duncan Matthews, Queen Mary Intellectual Property Research Institute

Duncan Matthews is Professor of Intellectual Property Law at Queen Mary University of London, where he teaches European, U.S. and international law of patents to postgraduate students. He has acted as an advisor to the IPO, EPO, the European Commission, the European Parliament, WIPO and the WHO. He is co-editor of the Research Handbook on Intellectual Property and the Life Sciences and is currently co-editing (with Professor Paul Torremans, University of Nottingham) a Research Handbook on European Patent Law for publication in 2023.

Vicki Salmon, Impact IP

Vicki Salmon is a solicitor and UK and European patent attorney and patent attorney litigator.  She began her career with Mewburn Ellis, before moving through city law firms and back to patent attorney practices.  She is now a co-founder of Impact Intellectual Property LLP, which started in September 2021.

Her work includes advising clients on all forms of IP protection, from strategy and filing, through clearance, disputes and exploitation.

Vicki is chair of the Education Committee, member of Council and vice chair of the Internal Governance Committee.  She is also a member of the Litigation Committee, having chaired it for a while, and a member of the Patents Committee.  She is a contributor to the CIPA Guide to the Patents Act.  As chair of litigation committee, Vicki worked on the development of the UPC with the other UK and EU professions, which involved many meetings with the IPO and appearances in front of a select committee.
