Andrew began his patent attorney career in 2006 with a leading London and Bristol firm, qualifying as a UK patent attorney in 2010 and a European patent attorney in 2011. He joined Stevens Hewlett & Perkins in 2025.

He has extensive experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications across technologies including computing, software, telecommunications, 2D/3D printing, AI, and household appliances. He also specialises in healthcare innovations such as ophthalmic laser systems, medical image processing, medical data management, and personal care devices. Andrew has a strong record representing clients before the EPO and UKIPO, including in oppositions and appeals.

In addition, he advises on design rights and manages registered design filings for products ranging from GUIs to VR devices. He holds a Master’s degree in Physics and the Universe from the University of Reading.

Andrew supports both global corporations and start‑ups, serving as IP Advisor in Residence at SETsquared Bristol. Outside work, he enjoys endurance sports, having completed the London Marathon (2021) and Ironman Wales (2023).

Trevor Cook is Of Counsel at Bird & Bird LLP. He is an English solicitor with over 45 years’ experience of intellectual property litigation. He was a partner in Bird & Bird LLP from 1981 to 2013 and in Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale & Dorr LLP from 2014 to 2022. He chairs the British Copyright Council, was for several years President of the UK group of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI), and is on the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) list of arbitrators.  In addition to countless articles and book chapters Mr Cook has authored the following books: A User’s Guide to Patents; Pharmaceuticals Biotechnology and the Law; EU Intellectual Property Law; A European Perspective as to the Extent to Which Experimental Use, and Certain Other, Defences to Patent Infringement, Apply to Differing Types of Research and The Protection of Regulatory Data in the Pharmaceutical and Other Sectors. He is co-author of Practical Intellectual Property Precedents and International Intellectual Property Arbitration. He is a general editor of The Modern Law of Patents and is editor of Sterling on World Copyright Law; Trade Secret Protection – A Global Guide and The Patent Litigation Law Review.  He is a contributor to the CIPA Guide to the Patents Act and the European Patents Handbook.

Lewis is a recently dual-qualified patent attorney working in the high tech team at CMS Cameron McKenna Nabarro Olswang LLP in London. He joined the profession in 2020 having completed a PhD in Engineering focusing on corrosion measurement techniques.

Dr Lawrence Cullen established his own consultancy, Lawrence Cullen@ConsultingIP, in 2025 to pursue his interests in biotechnology and in the role and relevance of SPCs. He is also a visiting scholar at the School of Law, University of Sheffield where he is collaborating on some research projects in IP and biotechnology. Dr Cullen was a Deputy Director at the Intellectual Property Office (IPO) in the UK from 2007 to 2024 where he had responsibility for operational delivery of SPCs and for patents in the pharma, organic chemistry and biotech fields. He joined the IPO in 1997 as a patent examiner in chemistry and worked in a variety of operational, technical and policy roles in patents and trademarks before taking on the Deputy Director role. Dr Cullen has a wide experience as a hearing officer dealing with questions of validity and patentability, having been involved in over 50 patent and over 25 SPC cases before the IPO and subsequent appeals before the UK courts and, prior to 2021, the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU). He has also worked as a hearing officer adjudicating trademark disputes. Dr Cullen was educated in chemistry in Ireland and the UK and worked as a research scientist at various universities in Europe and USA before joining the IPO.

Timothy Powell is a knowledgeable patent attorney with more than 30 years’ experience of innovation protection in high-technology engineering disciplines, contested proceedings before the European Patent Office and patent litigation in the UK.

He has had extensive exposure to corporate due diligence reporting and additionally founded the firm’s dedicated team for clients in the cleantech industry. He also has considerable international expertise, and regularly presents papers on aspects of intellectual property to universities and business audiences in the UK, US, China, Korea and elsewhere. Tim has also regularly contributed to the Inside Careers Guide to Chartered Patent Agents and has published numerous papers on intellectual property subjects.

A full or substitute member of the Council of the European Patents Institute for approximately fifteen years, Tim remains active on its professional conduct and finance committees. He has for the past 18 months chaired the epi Working Group on use of AI by patent attorneys.
