Exchange: Patent Diversity Gap at the Organization Level

Exchange: Patent Diversity Gap at the Organization Level
Open to European companies and TTOs
31 May 2022, 3:30 – 5:30pm CET

This May, Invent Together and WIPO will co-host a moderated, private virtual discussion about emerging best practices for tackling patent diversity gaps at the organisation level. European companies and tech transfer offices are invited to participate.

This meeting is part of a series of regional meetings to be co-hosted during 2022 by Invent Together and WIPO, to raise awareness about IP diversity gaps, particularly the gender gap. In each region, the partners are organising three sessions:

· First, a high-level political discussion about why and how IP offices are taking action to address the gap;

· Second, a discussion among IP office chief economists and scholars about best practices in quantifying the gap; and

· Third, an invite-only exchange among companies and technology transfer offices about their initiatives, best practices, and progress achieved to date.

The inaugural series of meetings took place in October 2021, focusing on the Americas, and the webcasts of the high-level political discussion as well as the chief economists/scholars meeting are available on the WIPO website for viewing. The third meeting was invite-only to ensure an open, candid discussion.

The goal of this programme is to gather information about what is being done to address the IP diversity gaps, what can be replicated and scaled globally, and what new global actions may be identified that will have a tangible positive impact in enabling underrepresented groups to use patents and other IP rights. Insights from the invite-only meetings will be leveraged to create guidance documents, to be posted on the WIPO website in 2023.

To learn more about the discussion on 31 May, and to secure a spot at the table, interested companies and TTOs can write to [email protected].
