Sought is a dynamic Chemistry Patent Attorney to join a highly regarded IP firm. London based, this opportunity is ideal if you are a part or recently qualified Chemistry Patent Attorney keen to explore the market.

You will advise pioneering chemical, pharmaceutical and life sciences organisations on commercially significant intellectual property matters, ranging from early-stage inventions to complex opposition and litigation work before the EPO and UPC.

The role

As a valued member of the London Chemistry group, you’ll be involved in a diverse portfolio of contentious and non-contentious patent matters. This position offers exposure to strategically important technologies including therapeutics, drug delivery systems, polymers, materials science, batteries, food chemistry and consumer products.

An overview of responsibilities include:

  • Drafting and prosecuting European and international patent applications
  • Advising clients on IP strategy and portfolio development
  • Supporting opposition and appeal proceedings before the EPO
  • Contributing to SPC and regulatory exclusivity matters
  • Collaborating with colleagues across multiple technical and legal disciplines
  • Managing client relationships and delivering commercially focused advice
  • Mentoring junior team members where appropriate

About you

Are you an individual with strong scientific expertise, analytical thinking and excellent communication skills along with the experience below?

  • Progressing towards UK and EQE qualification or with up to 3 years’ PQE
  • Academic specialisation in chemistry, organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry or a related scientific field
  • Experience handling European patent prosecution work
  • Familiarity with EPO procedures, particularly oppositions and appeals
  • Strong drafting ability and attention to detail
  • Confidence working in a team-oriented environment
  • The ability to prioritise effectively and manage competing deadlines
  • A genuine interest in innovation, business and IP strategy
