Alicia Instone elected President of The Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys

CIPA has elected Alicia Instone, a dual-qualified patent and trade mark attorney and patent litigator, as its youngest ever President.

Alicia, who is also treasurer of the UK association of the International Federation of Intellectual Property Attorneys (FICPI-UK), starts her one-year term of office today (January 1) on her 41st birthday. Alicia was elected at the Institute’s 137th Annual General Meeting on 2nd October 2019, serving as  Vice-President during 2020 to Richard Mair.

Alicia started her career in 2005 having won a national award for scoring the highest mark in the UK for one of her final trade mark examination papers. She is now a Partner at intellectual property law firm Cleveland Scott York where she works in the fields of chemistry, dyes and pigments, photochromic materials, medical devices, laboratory consumables, traffic control, oil and gas and natural sciences in general.

Alicia is a member of CIPA Council, is Chair of the institute’s Design & Copyright Committee and is also an active member of its Trade Marks and Business Practice Committees. She has represented both CIPA and FICPI-UK at international level and is a regular UK delegate at meetings of the European Association of National Intellectual Property Associations (ANIPA).
