Informals

Committee

The CIPA Informals Committee delivered a busy programme of events and worked alongside the Education Committee and PEB to provide support for and represent the interests of the CIPA Student community.

A significant development during the year was the introduction of the CIPA Informals Survey. Designed to obtain structured feedback from members, the survey will generate valuable insights into the experiences, priorities and challenges faced by those in the early stages of their careers. The survey is intended to become an annual initiative, enabling year-on-year comparison and ongoing improvement.

In addition to this new initiative, the Informals collaborated in and ran its established programme of events. These included the Student Induction Day, which welcomed new entrants to the profession and introduced them to the Informals network and CIPA. Further, the annual Student Conference once again provided an important forum for professional development, discussion and peer engagement. Alongside hosting these events, the Informals also organised the annual visit to the UK Intellectual Property Office, which provided attendees with valuable insight into the operations of the Office and the wider intellectual property system.

Alongside the larger events, the regional secretaries ran a varied array of networking events, social activities and student study support days where needed. These provided excellent opportunities for student members to meet one another within their local region. Finally, the Welfare team ran several coffee-morning style, networking events to keep the Student community connected and promote mental wellbeing.

Overall, 2025 was marked by both continuity and progress, as the Committee sustained its core programme while taking practical steps to strengthen member engagement and improve its long-term impact.
