In 2025, CIPA continued to play an active and constructive role in supporting UK Government intellectual property policy. The Institute contributed supportive quotes from Dr Bobby Mukherjee to multiple Intellectual Property Office announcements published on GOV.UK, underscoring the profession’s expertise and commitment to evidence-based policymaking.
In January, Dr Mukherjee welcomed the launch of the IPO’s new digital patent search tool, stating:
“It’s great to see the first of IPO’s new digital patents services launch. One IPO Search is a significant step forward… and should help patent attorneys and businesses alike find information about patents more easily.” (GOV.UK)
He was also quoted alongside IP Minister Feryal Clark and Adam Williams, Chief Executive of the Intellectual Property Office, in relation to the IPO’s consultation on Standard Essential Patents, saying:
“The UK patent profession is one of the most skilled and experienced in the world in the SEP arena and we welcome the IPO’s energy and vision… CIPA members welcome the opportunity to participate in this evidence-led consultation openly, reflecting the spectrum of views from SEP rights holders to implementers.”
Alongside this, CIPA engaged directly with ministers and officials on key issues including IP exhaustion and innovation policy, advocating for a balanced and business-focused framework. Through these activities, CIPA reinforced its position as a trusted partner to government in promoting a strong and effective IP system.
