Event Overview

The Australian Designs Act was amended last year to introduce some substantial and useful changes to Aussie designs practice. Jeremy Dobbin and Stuart Campbell of FB Rice will discuss the amendments to the Act and how these may prove beneficial to applicants, as well as highlighting some peculiarities of the Australian designs regime and contrasting with UK and European practice.

Jeremy Dobbin, FB Rice

Jeremy is a partner in the FB Rice Sydney engineering team and also heads the registered designs team. He specialises in patents and designs in the mechanical and electro-mechanical engineering fields. Jeremy’s expertise extends to inventions in the areas of mining equipment, oil and gas services, domestic electrical appliances, transport and logistics, and laboratory equipment. He has a particular focus on registered designs and has a particular interest in green technologies, chiefly in recycling and re-use of materials, and closing the loop generally. Before joining FB Rice, Jeremy worked as a London based UK patent agent and a European patent attorney for nearly a decade. Jeremy is a registered Australian and New Zealand Patent and Trade Marks Attorney, qualified as a European Patent Attorney, and is also registered as a UK Chartered Patent Attorney. Jeremy has been endorsed in the IAM Prosecution recommended list each year since 2019.

Stuart Campbell, FB Rice

Stuart Campbell, FB Rice

Stuart is a senior associate in the FB Rice Sydney engineering team. He has a broad technical background grounded by experience of product development and manufacturing. His IP experience spans across 3D printing, automotive, mining, construction, and robotics. Stuart has drafted and successfully prosecuted many patent applications largely acting for Australian clients. He also has thorough experience of registering industrial designs in Australia and overseas. Previously, Stuart worked as a design engineer in the UK developing consumer and commercial products for manufacture, and as an Intellectual Property Coordinator for a large, multi-national electronics manufacturer in the Netherlands. Stuart is a registered Australian and New Zealand Patent Attorney and a registered Australian Trade Marks Attorney.
