Event Overview

The Procedure of examination of European applications is defined in the European Patent Convention. It is described in more detail in the Guidelines for Examination. But how precisely does the Examining Division come to the conclusion that the application documents are in order for grant? An insight into the decision making process knowledge may help to draft Replies to the Communications of Examiner more efficiently.

Cillian Ó Donnabháin, EPO

Cillian Ó Donnabháin is a team manager at the European Patent Office; his field of specialisation is Nuclear Magnetic Resonance. Before joining the EPO in 1998 he studied in Cork, Padua, Italy and Oxford University. Cillian has passed the written requirements of the EQE, the Law and Practice Examination for Irish Patent agents, and spent several weeks in a patent agent firm in Dublin on the EPO’s Praktika Extern programme. He also worked with the EPO High Growth Technology Business group for a number of years.
