The IP Paralegal Committee, lead by Julia Tribe, met regularly via Zoom to discuss improving services for members. At the end of December, Julia stepped down as Committee chair after several years in the role.
CIPA held a series of webinars on the UPC in 2022, which included a webinar specifically for paralegals entitled The Practicalities of the UP for Paralegals. The webinar explored the practical aspects of the tasks that paralegals are likely to be involved with in relation to the Unitary Patent, including when and how to file a request for a Unitary Patent and how this will be recorded on the EP register.
The IP Paralegal Conference returned for an in-person event (the first since the pandemic) at the Kimpton Fitzroy Hotel, London, in October with over 170 delegates attending. We received positive feedback on the event with delegates enjoying being able to meet again in-person and praising Chief Executive Lee Davies’ chairing of the event.
The year ended on a high with Paralegal membership topping 500 and Annemarie Parsons taking over as committee chair.
